Each person has their own vital, meaningful life, and I join clients on this journey. Using a warm, empathic approach coupled with a healthy and gentle dose of directness, I guide clients in working through the areas of their lives that keep them stuck in their suffering. I work with individuals, couples and families to identify strengths and address issues in relationships so that they may be more fulfilling. I have experience treating a variety of issues and have helped people from all walks of life in a practical, life-changing manner. I enjoy working with adolescents as well. They often find me approachable and easy to open up to.
I specialize in treating eating disorders, body image, and self-esteem. I often incorporate creative exercises to help clients express themselves in healthy, appropriate ways. My work is influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology.
I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and completed a graduate internship at the Houston Eating Disorders Center. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of St. Thomas, completing internships at Crisis Intervention of Houston and MD Anderson. I also studied many religions and spiritual practices. I started in the mental health field at The Menninger Clinic on the Eating Disorders Program. I worked there for two years, where I also received training in leading groups. While completing my master's degree, I worked in a college educational setting.
After graduation, I worked at the Houston Eating Disorders Center as a Primary Therapist. I worked with individuals, families, couples, and led several groups. I conducted intakes to determine appropriate level of care and coordinated discharge plans. I created a group curriculum based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and played a significant role in developing programming as well as policies and procedures. As part of the treatment team, I collaborated with psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, dietitians, and other mental health professionals on a daily basis. I joined Southwest Psychotherapy Associates in 2014.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, learning about new cultures and spending time with my husband and son. I love anything to do with the outdoors, including gardening, swimming, hiking, biking and being a beach bum.
